Ojo de Dios by Jay Mohler

jay_mohler_gods_eyes.jpg

I remember the god's eyes crafts from summer camp, but these works of art from Jay Mohler blow those clean out of the water.

I've been making Ojos de Dios ever since seeing such yarn and stick mandalas in almost the exact form made by Huicholi natives of Mexico, and lamas from Tibet. Later I made many Ojos de Dios (Spanish for Eyes of God) in a Navajo 8-sided design, when "ojos" were a popular folk art in the 1970's American Southwest. Much more recently I've mostly made 12-sided Ojos de Dios, which I believe can represent a whole panorama of spiritual cosmologies ..... although for myself, I create these for artistic satisfaction rather than as any sort of spiritual talisman.
